Yerba buena (Clinopodium douglasii)
$14.00
A member of the mint family and native to much of Oregon and California. Clinopodium douglasii has small, delicate leaves, and tiny white flowers. One of the best native mints to use in tea (tastes great with Salvia apiana). The leaves are also used in traditional medicine, cooking, and essential oils.
Like other spreading mints, this plant will form low mats that can be encouraged by pinching the stems. Near the coast, Clinopodium douglasii can be planted in full; in the valleys or in hotter areas, it prefers part shade. It requires low to moderate moisture and will adapt to different soil types, including clay soils, as long as drainage is good.
A great plant to add to kitchen gardens, plant under trees or in shady spots, or plant in hanging baskets as the stems will trail as they grow, creating a nice cascading effect.
