Woodland strawberry (Fragaria vesca)
$6.00
Another excellent native NW plant, the woodland strawberry is a beautiful and very adaptable groundcover. They prefer partial shade, but are perfectly content in full sun. Woodland strawberries bear fruit in June-July. The berries are small (though delicious and edible) and are enjoyed by a multitude of birds and small animals.
They tolerates heavy clay, drought, and are cold hardy. They are a great option for urban yards and those seeking to replace their lawn grass with a tough, native cover plant.
Like the coastal strawberry, the woodland strawberry will spread via stolons, so do not plant in anywhere it is not wanted.
