A member of the evening primrose family, Oenothera lindheimeri is native to Texas and Northern Mexico. Habit is upright to spreading and height is between 2 and 3 feet.

Gaura is a widely popular landscaping plant due to its delicate white flowers on long terminal clusters. It is used in Piet Odoulf-style prairie plantings where it looks particularly lovely with native grasses, Achillea, and Echinacea. 

Tolerates heavy clay as long as the crown is situated above the ground. Needs little water once established, though a once a week watering during our hottest months keeps the plant looking its best.

There are many cultivars on the market (most of them shockingly pink) and I think this is the hardiest and best-looking of the bunch.

Very popular with hummingbirds and butterflies.
