Tufted hairgrass (Deschampsia cespitosa)
$12.00
Wonderful bunchgrass native the Oregon and much of the west. Tufted hairgrass is relatively small with tight clumps of fine, thin leaf blades. In late summer, the plant is bedecked with tall floating spikes of flowers. As a landscape plant, tufted hairgrass adds and airiness and golden light due to its tall and wispy flowers and seed heads.
It performs well in areas with consistent moisture and can be found growing alongside roadways and ditches. That said, it is drought tolerant once established. It spreads by seed, though can be easily removed if it spreads too readily.
It is a great replacement for non-native grasses as it provides food and shelter for insects and birds.
