Scarlet monkeyflower (Erythranthe cardinalis)

Price

$8.00

Another stunning monkeyflower! Like the seep monkeyflower, the scarlet version requires damp soil, but prefers a sunny location (it will do fine in part shade). This Western native is a great option for container gardening, though it can thrive almost anywhere as long as there is consistent moisture. It is found here in the PNW and locations as far south as Baja California. It is easy to grow and is a great option for those gardeners who kill everything else ;)

As one might imagine, it is an excellent pollinator plant and is attractive to hummingbirds.

Fun fact: Erythranthe (formerly Mimulus) cardinalis was one of the first plants brought to England from the PNW. Cardinalis was collected by the famous botanical explorer of North America, David Douglas, in the 1830s. It has since been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Get it, scarlet monkeyflower.
