June grass is a native, widely-distributed clumping prairie grass. It produces lovely, pink flowers in late spring that seem to dance atop the plant's foliage.  Its plumes of seed heads turn tan by mid-summer and the plant may go dormant in early fall.

June grass grows during the spring and late fall when soil temperatures are cool and likes full sun and dry, often sandy, soil.  It is a notoriously tough plant and will thrive in urban and rural settings alike. It is deer resistant, drought tolerant, and supports a variety of insects and pollinators. It's a great addition to any garden, yard, or roadside landscape.
