Sweet smelling, low growing mint (Lamiaceae family) native to circumboreal temperate regions of Europe, western and central Asia, and North America. In Oregon, populations are found across the state. It prefers damp fields and stream banks. As a garden plant, will grow well in shady, moist areas, or fine in a container with consistent moisture. Does not do well in an herb pot with Mediterranean plants such as thyme or oregano as it needs more moisture. 

A hug hit will pollinators. Also makes a wonderful tea or addition to a summer salad. A lovely tea when mixed with white sage (Salvia apiana).

Spreads slowly via rhizome, though is less enthusiastic than introduced mints.
