Douglas iris (Iris douglasiana)

Price

$9.00

Douglas iris is a native mainstay in Oregon. It thrives along the Pacific Coast from California to Oregon and thrives in meadows and open grasslands. It forms large clumps by reproducing through underground rhizomes. Douglas irises have pale cream to light, dark lavender, or deep reddish purple flowers that bloom from March to May.

They grow in full sun to part shade and moist to dry well-drained soil, with high organic matter. They will also tolerate clay soil and seasonal flooding. They may be planted for ground cover, or in borders, wetlands, ponds, and streams. Irises will spread to form circular rings over time; these can be divided if desired. Iris flowers attract insects and birds and provide nectar to hummingbirds.
