Solanaceae family member with large, gray-blue leaves. Native to the desert southwest, but naturalized in drier parts of Oregon, including the Columbia Gorge. In the desert, it begins flowering with the arrival of the monsoons.

In the Willamette Valley, it begins flowering in late June and continues for several months. The flowers are giant, whitish-purple in color, and emit a sweet musky scent. Flowers only in the evening and at night. The flowers will die by early morning, but the plant will flower profusely throughout the summer, especially with hotter temperatures. A huge hit with moths and other nighttime pollinators.

The plant requires sharp drainage. It will do fine in a pot with succulent mix or in the ground with seriously amended soil. 

All parts of the plant are toxic.
