California spice bush (Calycanthus occidentalis)
Price
$16.00
This medium-sized shrub is native to the California foothills from the Klamath Mountains to the San Juaquin Valley. It grows along sunny streams and creeks, thus prefers sun and needs consistently moist soil.
The lush foliage and large, pink, lotus-shaped flowers lend a tropical vibe. It can grow up to 12 feet in height, but can tolerate pruning to reduce height and encourage a bushier shape. Prune just after flowering as flowers appear of previous year's growth.
Truly one of my favorite landscaping shrubs!
