Riverbank lupine (Lupinus rivularis)

Riverbank lupine is native to western North America and can be found in damp meadows and forests, or along streams. They form clumps and can grow 2-4 feet tall. They flowers best when grown in full sun and may flower the first year. They tolerate a variety of soil types, but grows best in rich, well-drained soil. They will tolerate dry conditions, but bloom more regularly and with greater vigor with with regular access to water.

 

Riverbank lupine will bloom in late spring to early summer and will continue blooming throughout the summer with regular deadheading. Like most lupines, riverbank lupine spreads easily via seed.
