Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)

Price

$14.00

Common yarrow, Achillea millefolium, is a perennial plant found throughout the world. It is a medicinal used in both modern and traditional medicines  and is an attractive, easy to grow plant.

The origins story of yarrow are complicated - very few plant species are listed as native to Europe, Asia, and North America as is the case for Achillea millefolium.

It is a complex or aggregate of many polyploidal genetic types. Some reserachers argue that there are nearly 400 different A. millefolium species, while others group them as a single species. Yarrow may have spread to North America prior to human colonization, but since then has interbred locally across types.

As a garden plant, the flowers are open pollinated and loved by a variety of insects. They are disease resistent and very easy to grow. The fern-like leaves make a great groundcover and the plant can be used as a replacement for lawn grass. Will even tolerate light foot traffic and mowing!
